Also, Rika Denshi’s contact probes inspect semiconductors with excellent RF characteristics that can tolerate high-speed devices with a length of up to 1.6mm.
To address the heat resistance needed for reliability tests, the company has developed Hotpin that handles 175 degrees Celsius and the Dragon probe that tolerates 200 degrees Celsius. “We have recently observed an increase in the demand for high-temperature resistance from 175 to 200 degrees Celsius or greater. Today, we have specific products to address these demands. But, for years, we have been offering a standard probe package that tolerates the higher temperatures without degrading life for up to 25 to 50,000 cycles,” says Pete Blitchington, Senior Sales Manager of the US and Europe, Rika Denshi Group.
Along with contact probes, Rika Denshi also renders IC Sockets and test fixtures in a comprehensive solution package suited to each client’s application and environment. The company offers IC sockets either individually or in combination with the probe as a total solution. “We encourage our clients to opt for a complete solution—both the probes and socket together—as it provides better design accuracy,” mentions Blitchington. Nonetheless, upon clients’ request, the company also provides probe with impeccable compatibility with their existing sockets.

However, when they moved that same package size to higher temperatures using the same probe, their sockets started frequently failing after 20,000 cycles. The client approached Rika Denshi to help them test at a higher temperature for a longer lifecycle. “Using our Hotpin and Dragon probe in their 0.5 mm socket, the client achieved over 300,000 cycles at 175 degrees Celsius,” extols Blitchington.

After her father had to resign as the company’s CEO abruptly, Jody took over the reins at just the age of 27. And, at such a young age, she took the onus of transforming the work culture, introducing several transformative changes while keeping the company’s traditional values intact. “My first contribution was to transform paperwork-driven operations to digitally-evolved processes in order to enhance the efficiency of my organization,” says Jody. She also played a pivotal role in improving communication between teams in the company’s subsidiaries across countries. A student of philosophy, Jody also emphasizes people management, including hiring and human development. “My management team and I try to create more opportunities to communicate with the employees and ensure the well-being of each member,” remarks Jody. Recognizing her leadership capabilities, she was felicitated with the ‘Forbes Women Award’ in 2016.

Jody also aims to inculcate more advanced technology—automation, robots, AI, and other cognitive tools— into Rika Denshi’s operations to enhance the productivity of its employees. “We want to make Japan the front runner in the semiconductor industry. We will continue to innovate our design and manufacturing processes to be more efficient and double our current productivity in the coming years to achieve that goal,” concludes Jody.
